A Game to Remember: My Time with the Harlem Globetrotters

Diving into the heart of joy and camaraderie, my experience photographing the Harlem Globetrotters game was a beacon of light amidst my health challenges. The warmth from players, coaches, and media, enhanced by the priceless support of my godmother and brother, was nothing short of uplifting. This adventure not only fueled my passion but also deepened my faith, reminding me to always trust in God's plan. Join me as I reflect on a day filled with laughter, support, and divine timing—a game to remember.

In The Flash of Eye

As the vibrant lights of Circus Circus Casino cast a glow on the evening, Stephine's heart swelled with joy watching her grandkids on the carousel. Eager to capture the moment, she attempted to stand, but in an instant, the world spun and darkness edged her vision. The ground rushed up to meet her, and confusion set in as she found herself surrounded by concerned onlookers. Her daughter, sensing the commotion, leaped from the carousel, her own worry etched in every feature. Stephine, amidst the sea of faces, could only think of the simplicity of reaching the safety of their hotel room without alerting her 82yr old mother. “Just help me get in my daughter’s wheelchair and get me to the hotel room,” she insisted, brushing off the severity of the fall. “We fly back home tomorrow; I’ll go to the hospital as soon as we land!” Little did she know, this incident would anchor her to Las Vegas for the next three months, embarking on a medical odyssey far from home.

This incident marked the beginning of a journey she never anticipated, starting her battle with Guillain-Barre Syndrome—a rare autoimmune disorder that left her grappling with nerve damage and a new reality of dependence.

Despite the unexpected turn her life had taken, Stephine’s faith remained unshaken. Embedded in her heart was a touch of resilience and a deep-seated belief that no matter how fierce life's battles, one must always trust in God and keep fighting. It was this faith that carried her through the initial shock of her diagnosis, the long days in the ICU, and the 2 1/2 months in a rehabilitation facility.

Now, six years into her journey with GBS, the battle continues. The nerve damage has left lasting effects, challenging her in ways she could never have imagined. Yet, Stephine's spirit remains indomitable. Each day, she confronts her challenges head-on, fortified by her trust in God and the belief that His promises are steadfast.

Amidst this backdrop of resilience and faith, a chapter of joy and fulfillment emerged as Stephine realized a dream long-held close to her heart—a dream vacation to Hawaii would be fulfilled 6years later. This journey was not just a respite from the ongoing battles but a testament to her indomitable spirit, a moment where the serenity and beauty of Hawaii mirrored the peace and strength within her. The photos from this trip are more than mere snapshots; they are vibrant testimonies to the power of dreams, faith, and the joy of life’s victories, no matter how hard-won. Amidst the lush landscapes and tranquil beaches, Stephine’s radiance and joy are palpable, each picture a poignant reminder that amidst life's fiercest storms, there are moments of profound beauty and triumph waiting to be embraced.

Stephine's story is a testament to the power of faith in the darkest of times. Her resilience is a beacon of hope for others navigating their own trials, a reminder that even when the battle rages on, surrender is not an option. Through her unwavering trust in God and the strength she draws from her faith, Stephine stands as a living embodiment of perseverance and grace.

Her journey underscores a profound truth: that our battles, no matter how long or arduous, are not fought in vain. In her steadfast faith and relentless fight, Stephine shows us that with God, every moment of pain, every day of struggle, holds the promise of purpose and the potential for triumph.

As she continues to navigate the challenges left by GBS, Stephine’s story is not just one of survival but of profound faith. It’s a narrative that resonates with the power of believing in something greater than oneself, and the unbreakable strength found in trusting God's word, even in the face of life’s most daunting battles..
